aahhhh, the guests
so, i had some guests tonight. they seemed really nice, and fun, and actually appreciative of all the work i was doing. it was getting late, they were the last ones in the restaurant, and they had asked me to call their driver (another working stiff from the hotel they were staying at) and tell him to come pick them up. i walk out to the concierge desk to call, and find out that the driver is already there. cool, they can leave whenever. i went back in to the dining room and let them know that their driver was here and that they could go whenever they liked. then, the younger of the men at the table pipes up "he can wait." "of course, sir, take your time, i just wanted you to know that he was here and ready whenever you were." "well, he can wait. it's not like he has anything else to do" WTF!!! seriously, what the fuck is that? so people really think that service professionals such as myself have "nothing better to do" with our lives than wait around for drunk assholes to finish? yes, i'm in the service industry. yes, it is my job to serve. BUT, it is not my LIFE. i am not solely on this planet to serve you. i am not breathing only to give you whatever you desire. i am actually a person with a life. i actually would like to be able to go home sometime in the near future to get some fucking sleep. and so would the guy in the car waiting for ONE HOUR. really, what the fuck is this attitude some people have with us? i don't understand it at all, and it just pisses me off to no end when guests that we bend over backward for to serve and coddle and love and feed and drive and everything act like we are their PERSONAL FUCKING SERVANTS. really, can people just remember, for one freaking second, that we are people too and deserve the minutest respect because of that simple fact?
